Tŷ Faenor is ideally equipped for families with young children (see our facilities section for more details) and with its numerous beaches and rock pools to explore, children’s play area, fishing or crab fishing for the younger ones, water sports and open spaces, Newport is the perfect family holiday destination.  In addition to the numerous local attractions and places to visit nearby there are also a number of great family day out venues to choose from including:

Karting

BP Karting, Withybush, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire is an indoor karting centre for family fun or competitive racing. Suitable for those over 8 years for family fun and over 16 years for competitive racing and of a minimum height of 135cms. Choice of 10, 20 or 40 laps. There are group events of grand prix and endurance available. Racesuits, gloves and helmets are provided with a full safety briefing by experienced staff. Refreshments available or full catering by arrangement.

Folly Farm

About 40 minutes drive from Tŷ Faenor, Folly Farm offers four fantastic reasons to visit… a friendly farmyard, spectacular zoo, enormous vintage funfair and an imaginative range of adventure play.  Awarded ‘TOP DAY OUT IN WALES 2005’ by the Wales Tourist Board this is one of Pembrokeshire premier children’s attractions with hundreds of friendly farm animals, funfair rides, exotic creatures, adventure playgrounds, shows, children’s activities, entertainment and refreshments.

Oakwood theme park

Oakwood is about 30 miles or 45 minutes by car from Tŷ FaenorOakwood opened in the late 1980s as a very small family park with BMXs, a wooden fort, a 3D-style cinema experience show, go-karts and a water chute ride. The park now incorporates 5 large thrill rides: Megafobia (1996), Vertigo (1997), The Bounce (1999), Hydro (2002) and Speed (2006).Oakwood has opened its latest ride to the public: "Speed", a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter roller coaster with a 97-degree drop. This ride has the steepest drop in the UK and is the tallest of its type in the world.  The 85ft-tall wooden roller coaster "Megafobia" has been rated among the best in Europe by enthusiasts.

Dyfed Shires and leisure farm

About 15 minutes by car from Tŷ Faenor is the home of the famous Dyfed Shire Horses.  Enjoy a fascinating family day out, with lots of indoor and outdoor activities including indoor play area, butter making area, cuddle corner, sand diggers, bottle feeding, shire horse talk & harnessing, giant draughts & table tennis, ballpools/softplay, inflatable slide, craft demonstrations, cafe/giftshop, indoor picnic area, crazy golf, novelty train ride, swing boats, mini tractors/go karts, horse/wagon rides, working horses, quad bike hire and junior rollercoaster & chair.

Pembrokeshire’s Islands and Wildlife

One of the main attractions of Pembrokeshire to holiday makers is the spectacular natural beauty of its coastline and surrounding islands.  The wildlife found in the area is the major highlight for many visitors.  Islands such as Ramsey, Grassholm and Skomer are teeming with sea, land and birdlife.Visitors wishing to explore the natural history of the coastline and islands can do so on land or by sea via one of the many organized wildlife safaris that cater for tourists. 

The Voyage of Discovery Company operates from the Ramsey Island Boat booking office opposite Lloyds Bank in the centre of St Davids (about 23 miles or 55 minutes from Tŷ Faenor) and offers a variety of trips including the ‘Ramsey Island Voyage’ (1 – 1 ½ hours around the RSPB reserve), ‘North Bishops Puffin and Shearwater Voyage’ (1 ½ hour evening trip) and ‘Offshore Island Whale and Dolphin Watch’ (Trip to Grassholm Island and beyond in search of porpoise, dolphin, Minke whale, Orca and Fin Whale).  For further information call 0800 854367.
