Located on the A487 between Cardigan and Fishguard and sandwiched between Carn Ingli mountain and the Sea, is the historic town of Newport or Trefdraeth (Town by the beach in Welsh). Steeped in history, Newport boasts both a Norman Castle and Church, which stand proudly above this small medieval town on the shores of the river Nevern (Nyfer) Estuary teeming with wildlife.
Circular walks from the town lead the visitor to the heights of Carn Ingli (Mount of Angels), part of the Preseli mountain range, along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with its abundance of wild flowers, wild life, beautiful views and sheltered coves. Newport is an ideal base for touring the many ancient Celtic monuments to be found in the Welsh-speaking area of the National Park.
Visitors return time and time again to this picturesque little town to enjoy the peace and tranquility of its ancient, winding lanes, the exhilaration of superb coastal views, the wealth of activites and attractions and the warmth and hospitality of its residents. |
