walkers' sign post on Carn Ingli Mountain

The Pembrokeshire National Park has over 600 miles of footpaths and bridleways to explore.  The Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail, Britain’s only coastal national park, is made up of 186 miles of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in Britain and passes through Newport just a few hundred yards from Tŷ Faenor.

From Amroth in the south to St Dogmaels in the north, the trail covers all kinds of stunning seaside landscape from rugged cliffs and sheltered coves to sandy beaches and estuaries teaming with wildlife.

Walkers should expect to encounter beautiful wild coastal flowers, seal colonies, an array of bird life as well as numerous historical sites from Iron Age hill forts and Neolithic burial chambers to imposing Norman Castles and Victorian-era fortification.

To complete the whole 186 miles represents a significant physical challenge as its 35,000 feet of ascent and descent is approximately equivalent to climbing Everest!  Not surprisingly, the vast majority of people choose to walk sections that match their age, fitness and ability.  The diversity and accessibility of the coast path is such that all age groups and abilities are well catered for with the small coastal villages, pubs and restaurants strung out along its length always offering welcome breaks and added enjoyment.

A Walkers bus service is available throughout the coastal path including Newport where it can be caught just a few yards from the front door of Tŷ Faenor!  Alternatively, many walkers choose to leave their car at the finish point, catch the bus to the start point and walk back.

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority offers an online search facility where you can choose from 200 circular walks in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Also listed is a selection of gentle strolls, plus wheelchair and easy access walks.
